During the filming of the scene in which Dale Cooper first examines Laura’s body, a malfunctioning fluorescent light above the table flickered constantly, but Lynch decided not to replace it, since he liked the disconcerting effect that it created. Also, during the take, one of the minor actors misheard a line and, thinking he was being asked his name, he told Cooper his real name instead of saying his line, briefly throwing everyone off balance. Lynch was reportedly pleased with the lifelike, unscripted moment in dialogue, and kept the mistake in the final cut.

I don’t care if you’ve ever seen Twin Peaks or not, Gordon Cole is one of the most brilliant, yet simplistically designed characters I’ve ever seen. This is by far one of my favorite scenes in Twin Peaks. David Lynch is a genius.

cooper: diane, 11:13 p.m. just finished washing up and ready for bed. this morning i showered for nine minutes. i found 17 hairs. three curly, 14 straight. i used a balsam shampoo along with a conditioner courtesy of the hotel and delivering what it promised: a silky manageability. cotton towel by fieldcrest with just the right amount of absorbency. consumed 15 doughnuts today, diane, all jelly. i’ll be injecting my insuline in four minutes.
